Edmonds/Kingston ferry route back in service after log spill

Dec 28, 2020, 12:02 PM | Updated: 2:39 pm

The Edmonds/Kingston ferry route has resumed service, after logs spilled off of an oversized vehicle onto a ramp and blocked access to the boat for several hours on Monday.

Washington State Ferries reported around 1:30 p.m. that the last log had been removed from the transfer span. Ferries said crews would then conduct a safety inspection of the terminal structure before vehicles would be allowed off the boat. Service resumed for the 2:25 sailing out of Edmonds and the 2:30 sailing out of Kingston.

There were about 100 cars stuck on the Spokane ferry while the spill was cleaned up. Walk-on passengers were allowed to disembark using the overhead walkway.

KIRO Radio traffic reported a 1-hour wait at the Bainbridge terminal and a 3-hour wait at the Mukilteo terminal as service resumed on the Edmonds-Kingston route.
