Another inmate dies at Snohomish County Jail

A 24-year-old woman was found dead in her cell at the Snohomish County Jail medical unit early Monday morning. It’s the ninth death in three years at the jail.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said the woman, who has not been identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office yet, died at the scene after medical personnel attempted CPR.

The sheriff’s office said the woman from Everett was booked into the jail Jan. 7 for violating a no contact order and obstruction. She had been screened upon booking and routinely checked every half hour while she was housed in the medical unit.

Sherry Ireton, Director of Communications at the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, said they’ll conduct a morbidity review independent of whatever the Medical Examiner or major crimes unit learns in their death investigation.

The cause of death has not yet been released.
