Boeing Machinists want another contract vote

Jan 6, 2014, 5:59 PM | Updated: Jan 7, 2014, 7:42 am

Just days after Boeing Machinists narrowly voted to accept a contract extension to secure the 777X, the union says some members are asking for a recount or a third vote.

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers spokeswoman Connie Kelliher told 770 AM The Truth’s Ben Shapiro so many of their members were on vacation during the vote.

“A little more than 25 percent of the people didn’t cast a ballot on Friday,” said Kelliher. “With a vote this close, that passed at 51 percent, that’s basically 38 percent of the members decided the future for the next 10 years.”

The international president granted one-time permission for an absentee ballot process, but Kelliher said many members had already begun their holiday vacations before the announcement was made.

Kelliher said that some of the members have filed complaints with the National Labor Relations Board over the timing and they’re hoping pressure from thousands of union members will convince the international president to consider a recount or a third vote.
