ACLU sues to block sex offender registry release

Trying to keep the identities of low-level sex offenders a secret, the local ACLU has filed a lawsuit in King County to prevent their names from becoming public.
The identities of Level One sex offenders, people the state feels are the lowest risk to re-offend, are currently protected, but a Franklin County woman has requested the entire database of sex offenders be released to the public. The State Patrol believes it should be public.
The Seattle PI.com reports the ACLU filed suit to prevent the release last week, and a King County judge issued a ruling preventing the release until the case can be heard.
Level One sex offenders worry they’ll lose their jobs if their past comes to light. They also fear for the safety of their families.
