The Goodwill in Port Townsend is sitting on over 55 African tribal artifacts someone anonymously donated in October.
Rather than sit on a shelf with $4 tablecloths, Goodwill spokesman George White says the collection will be displayed with other high-end donations.
“We actually have a tier process that enables us to sort donations and maximize the return on each donation,” he said.
The collection has been appraised at $11,000, but Goodwill is betting it will sell for more than that on its bidding website this holiday season. Last year, a Salvador Dali etching titled “Reflection” set a Northwest Goodwill record and sold for $21,000. It was originally appraised at $7,000.
