If you’re keeping up on The Bachelorette, you’re wondering if Brooks will return for the season finale or if Des will pick between Drew and Chris on Monday night’s finale show.

And even if you’re not, but have ever caught that weird rose ceremony in channel surfing passing, Jason and Molly Mesnick, hosts of KIRO Radio’s This IS Reality podcast and The Bachelor Season 13 stars, explain what’s going on.

In a nutshell, Des has a decision to make: will she accept an engagement ring from Drew or Chris (unless Brooks, who dumped her last week, returns). As if popping the question isn’t stressful enough, it’s all unfolding on TV with someone she’s hung around for mere hours, according to the Mesnicks.

Molly wonders what’s going on in the mind of The Bachelorette the night before. Jason had to make a similar decision, albeit the wrong one, and says it’s not easy.

“That night before I didn’t sleep well because I was so broken up.”

Jason says he told the producers that he wasn’t going to propose to anyone (in season 13) and he even called Melissa’s parents to let them know, but he says the producers visited him that night about a hundred times to convince him otherwise. They even called back her parents to say that Jason was confused.

But Jason does own up and says proposing was ultimately all his decision. He wasn’t threatened or coerced.

“I just remember dreading every single moment,” says Jason, who, if you’ve forgotten, chose Melissa on the show, but later realized he should have given a ring to Molly.

“I should have guessed that you weren’t going to choose me because it wasn’t sunset,” says Molly, referring to the climactic scene when the couple finally meets to profess their undying love.

Molly says she knew that Jason didn’t choose her when host Chris Harrison was walking her down the path and she caught Jason’s eye; he didn’t smile.

“My stomach dropped and I’m like, ‘It’s not me, I know it’s not me.’ I should have turned around and run,” says Molly.

Before that moment, Molly says it’s hard to tell exactly what will unfold in the finale because the producers are feeding them lines to create emotion and heighten the drama.

“They told you things like ‘Jason’s so in love with you, he can’t get enough of you, aren’t you so excited to get engaged today,'” says Molly. “So my mind is thinking that ‘Oh, he’s choosing me, they know’ … so that when he dumps me, I’m devastated.”

Molly says she cried her eyes out after Jason’s rejection.

“I actually saw Jason propose to Melissa from the condo I was staying in … I could see you guys in the distance and the power went out … I could see it, I could hear her screaming and I’m like ‘This is my worst nightmare, this is so horrible.’ I was devastated.”

And the awkward moments don’t end after the proposal. Jason says next it’s time to actually get to know the person you just proposed to … For him and Melissa, it was over cheap pizzas at a house in New Zealand.

But whatever happens for Des Monday night, her happily ever after might happen after the cameras stop rolling. Just like it did for Jason and Molly.
