Fatal beer run getaway driver could face homicide charges

Vehicular homicide charges could be filed today against the driver in a Tacoma convenience store robbery that ended with his two alleged accomplices dead as he sped from the scene.

Pierce County prosecutors say 19-year-old Raymond Lewis III was the driver Wednesday in this convenience story robbery. He was waiting outside in the car as two other went inside, roughed up a clerk and stole two 12-packs of beer.

The police say Lewis lost control of his car and he sped away. It flipped and his two friends were ejected from the car and killed.

The News Tribune reports Lewis could be charged with vehicular homicide. He made his first court appearance on Thursday and is being held on $350,000.

Lewis has no criminal history, and he turned himself in to police shortly after the accident.
