Skagit River bridge could be named for fallen trooper

The state trooper killed while directing traffic around the collapsed Skagit River Bridge could be honored with his name on the new span.
Trooper Sean O’Connell was helping drivers get around the I-5 closure when his motorcycle collided with a box truck near Conway. The 16-year veteran was killed in the accident. The Herald reports the Washington State Transportation Commission will be asked Tuesday to rename the new Skagit River Bridge after him.
The 38-year-old former Trooper of the Year was well known in Snohomish and Skagit Counties, where he spent most of his state patrol career.
Sponsors of the renaming say it’s a small token of gratitude for his years of service to the state.
