A Coast Guard rescue boat Friday removed a cruise ship passenger who might have suffered a stroke off the Washington coast.

“The Coast Guard received a call from the captain of the cruise ship Norwegian Pearl, requesting medical evacuation for a 72-year old woman who was reportedly suffering symptoms of a stroke, said U.S.C.G. spokeswoman Grace Baldwin in Seattle. “After a conference call between the duty flight surgeon and the Norwegian Pearl’s physician, it was agreed that the patient should be removed from the ship.”

The 47-foot rescue boat out of Neah Bay, Wash. met the ship, about 17 miles offshore and took the woman back to Neah Bay where she was placed on board a helicopter and flown to Olympic Medical Center, in Port Angeles. Her condition is unknown.
