NHL watch: Deadline day for Coyotes in Arizona

Jul 2, 2013, 5:35 AM | Updated: 12:11 pm

Seattle lost a shot at the NBA in May, but the city still has a chance to land the NHL. It’s all up to what the city council in a Phoenix suburb decides Tuesday night.

The Glendale City Council will decide if it will restructure the lease agreement at its arena in a bid to keep the NHL’s Coyotes in town. If the lease deal is voted down, the NHL would likely move the team and Seattle is a possible landing spot.

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn has met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. The mayor and members of the Seattle City Council have met with New York-based investors who want to make a play for the team and move it to Seattle.

The league has said it would be fine with KeyArena being its home for two to four years.
