Lakewood man gets 28 years for killing ex-wife in front of counselor

A judge sentenced a Lakewood, Wash. man to more than 28 years in prison for shooting and killing his ex-wife during a counseling session in 2010.
Federal Way Police say that Charles Parsons, 44, was trying to reconcile with his wife of 12 years after their divorce in 2009. During a counseling session at a Federal Way church, police say Carol Parsons, 38, declined to stop dating her boyfriend. Parsons stood, aimed his gun at the counselor and then his wife, firing six times and hitting Carol Parsons five times.
Charles Parsons was waiting outside when police showed up at the church.
King County Superior Court Judge LeRoy McCullough agreed with the prosecutor’s recommendation and gave Parsons the top end of the sentencing range, 28.5 years.
The sentence follows Parsons’ guilty plea in April to first degree murder.
