State Supreme Court hears final arguments for health care workers’ back pay

The state could have to pay in-home healthcare workers more than $100 million in back wages if the state supreme court upholds a jury verdict it’s been fighting for two years.
Twenty-two-thousand in-home health care workers in Washington were awarded more than $57 million after being short-changed by the state between 2003 and 2007.
The state reduced their pay by 15 percent because they lived with the person they were caring-for.
The judge in the case also applied interest to the jury award, and now the state owes more than $100 million.
The supreme court will hear final arguments in this case Tuesday morning. The state is asking the jury award to be reversed.
