The Federal Aviation Administration is set to approve Boeing’s proposed fixes for the 787 Dreamliner and allow the troubled jetliner to resume flights, The Wall Street Journal reported late Thursday.

Sources tell the Journal FAA head Michael Huerta could make the announcement as soon as Friday. The approval would allow Boeing and airlines to retrofit over four dozen 787’s grounded since mid-January. The repairs would reportedly take just days to implement, but testing and training mean airlines could be resuming service within weeks.

The 787 has been grounded worldwide since lithium-ion batteries melted down on two separate Dreamliners in just over a week.

The groundings have cost Boeing hundreds of millions of dollars.
