Emergency road repairs may cause delays on NB I-5 near Stanwood

Apr 9, 2013, 10:20 AM | Updated: 10:25 am

The northbound lanes of I-5 near Stanwood were cut to just one lane on Tuesday for emergency road repairs.

Travis Phelps with the Washington State Department of Transportation says a series of concrete panels needed to be fixed right away.

“Our maintenance crews were on a routine patrol earlier in the fall and spotted these cracked concrete panels and they just started deteriorating at a much faster rate than we anticipated so we were forced to do this emergency closure.”

The lane closures will continue until 5 a.m. on Friday.

Phelps says they will have to close the freeway lanes again next week in the same area to finish the work.
