Both Washington state and Seattle’s eviction moratoriums, put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, are scheduled to expire at the end of June. Could they be extended?

KIRO Radio reporter Hanna Scott says there’s no word from the Governor’s Office on whether he will issue a new eviction moratorium when the current one expires at the end of this month.

Another legal win for governor in case challenging eviction moratorium

Seattle’s eviction moratorium is also due to expire on June 30. As for whether it may be extended, Mayor Jenny Durkan says she wants to dig into the data and talk with the governor about his plans before making a final decision.

“At this time, I don’t think it’s wise for there to be a lifting of the eviction moratorium because we are just coming out of COVID, and the money is just starting to get into the community. You can feel things opening up,” Durkan said.
