Mysterious request for records in Arlington murders draws suspicion

Mysterious people are trying to get police records in the case of two brothers accused of killing Arlington couple Patrick Shunn and Monique Patenaude last month.

Prosecutors speculate that those who are seeking the records may have ties to the suspects, John and Tony Reed, KIRO 7 reports.

According to the Everett Herald, Snohomish County prosecutors are asking a judge to step in and decide whether detectives have to hand over the documents as requested by two people last month.

The request was specifically for police records that have not been made public in connection to the April’s disappearance and murder of Shunn and Paternaude.

Some of the materials have information on key witnesses in the case and who may have identified the Reed brothers as suspects.

According to the Herald, detectives fear those looking for the information could have a connection to the brothers and are helping them somehow.

“The public interest is not served by requiring law enforcement to halt their investigation and spend their resources gathering, reviewing and making determinations about what particularized information may or may not be essential to effective law enforcement at this point in time,” a civil deputy prosecutor told the Herald.

Prosecutors say the two people likely used pseudonyms to make their requests. One signed their name as Kelly and the other Kishi Tox. One of them claims to be someone close to the victims.

Tony Reed turned himself in at the US/Mexican Border Monday night. His brother, John, is still on the run.
