The Republican Party is owned by consultants

May 23, 2016, 3:54 PM

The Republican Party is owned by consultants.  It is 100 percent driven by people who hold the party captive, especially from in the arenas of technology and data.

We all know it’s better to own than to rent.  In technology, sometimes it makes sense to rent; cloud computing as one example of that. But when it comes to things like technology assets crucial to victory where proprietary features and capabilities can deliver victory, it makes sense to own it outright. When you own something you can came continual improvements upon it, when you rent, you are captive to your landlord.

Hillary Clinton’s tech people have detailed what they’ve done in a very brief time for her campaign. These people used to work for Obama, now they are building systems for Hillary. They are taking a good foundation and making it even better.

When I worked in D.C. we built a great digital architecture for the RNC that the people that followed us could build on; we even enable crowd sourcing so talented tech people outside the Committee could volunteer to write code instead of delivering yard signs. I am not saying it was a perfect system–none are–but it was an extensible, documented, modern base of technology the Committee owned and on which it could improve. Months after the mid-term victory, when a new Chairman came in office, according my several of my friends and sources, the Republican consultants tore down that house and began building another.  A house owned by the consultants. One that you’re donor dollars were renting instead of the house that you used to own.

The Democrats build using free market practices, they own what they need to own, they never stop improving and they let volunteers work on it as well.  While the Republicans use labor union, protectionist, monopolistic tactics. And the Republicans are going to have their heads handed to them by the Democratic technology team.

Trump has shattered the party. It is now time for creative destruction within the technology sector of the Republican Party.
