A desperate manhunt continues up and down the West Coast for a 26-year-old King County man suspected of killing his elderly grandparents, and police worry he’s trying to get guns and kill cops.
“This has more urgency than most,” said King County Sheriff John Urquhart at a news conference Monday. “We don’t want another Maurice Clemons here,” he said in reference to the November 2009 killing of four Lakewood police officers.
Michael Chad Boysen is suspected of killing his 82-year-old grandfather, Robert Taylor, and his 80-year-old grandmother, Norma, inside their Renton-area home over the weekend, just hours after he was released from prison on a burglary conviction. The couple was found Saturday.
“I can tell you they were not shot but at this point all we are saying is they died from homicidal violence,” Urquhart said. He said there is no clear motive yet.
Boysen reportedly told people when he was released he planned to kill people in “positions of authority, which we take to mean police officers and corrections officers.”
King County officials have sent warnings to police agencies in several states, warning them that he is an extreme danger to the public and police.
The 6-time convicted felon is believed to be driving his grandparent’s stolen red, 2001 Chrysler 300. The license plate is 046-XXU.
According to Urquhart, the pair picked Boyson up at the prison in Monroe Friday morning and spent most of the day driving him around as he picked up a new ID, visited his new probation and ran other errands before returning to their Fairwood home for a welcome home party Friday night. Their daughter discovered their bodies Saturday morning. Family members have told investigators there was nothing unusual about Boyson at the party.
“We need the help of the public because we have no idea where he is,” Urquhart said.
Boysen’s rap sheet includes 1st and 2nd degree robbery convictions and convictions for trafficking stolen property. He also has a history of prescription drug addiction. He’s 5-foot 10 inches tall, 170 pounds with dark hair and hazel eyes. Urquhart said you should not try to contact him if you see him, just call 911.
