Good to Go tolling system back online four days ahead of schedule

The Washington State Department of Transportation’s Good to Go tolling system is fully back online as of Monday.

Good to Go’s online portal had temporarily shut down on Friday, July 2, and was originally scheduled to be offline for two weeks. Monday’s relaunch brings it back four days ahead of schedule.

With the new system now rolling out to the public, all two million Good to Go users will need to log back in to change their passwords, and opt in (or out) of new features like text alerts and pay-as-you-go options.

Previously, users would have to pre-pay $30 into their toll accounts. The new system will allow people to charge tolls directly to their credit cards twice a month.

That said, WSDOT is also urging customers to “wait a while before visiting the new site or calling customer service if their question is not urgent.” Because of that, users with unpaid tolls will be given an additional two weeks to pay.

“While the transition work is complete, this is just the start of major adjustment period for our customers as they get used to the new system,” WSDOT Toll Division Director Edward Barry said in a news release. “It will take a while to settle into a new normal for both our customers and our new call center.”

The reason for the upgrade was that the system is more than 10 years old and, before now, didn’t have the functionality users have come to expect. The goal moving forward is to allow customers to handle most of their business on the web, leaving the call center to handle more difficult issues.
