Pinpointing Boeing 787 problem likely still a few weeks away

The head of the National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday morning it will likely be a few more weeks before it pinpoints the problems with Boeing 787.

NTSB chair Deborah Hersman told a breakfast crowd at an event sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor that her agency is probably weeks away from completing its investigation of the battery issues on the Boeing Dreamliner.

She said investigators are proceeding with a lot of care, and it will likely be a few more weeks until it can tell the public what happened and what needs to be changed.

Hersman said the battery issues are not something you would expect to see in a new battery.

The entire Dreamliner fleet has been grounded for three weeks after battery problems with two of the planes.

The NTSB has planned a Thursday press conference to update the investigation.
