Despite the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Washington state, you’ll still be able to “Do the Puyallup.”

Washington State Fair spokeswoman Stacy Van Horne told KIRO 7 TV that they are checking with state health department officials regularly to make sure that the fair is following proper health and safety protocols. There will be more sanitization points, including additional hand wash stations, plus most of the fair is held outside.

“We’re continuing to follow CDC recommendations and guidelines. So what that means is we are going to put on our party for everybody,” Van Horne said. “We’re going to obviously continue to always do it in a safe way to welcome people back.”

She also says the fair brings a lot of dollars to the region, which is part of why the show must go on.

“We are the largest fair in the smallest city. We have a huge economic impact right here in Puyallup and across the state,” Van Horne told KIRO 7 TV.

Now, organizers are trying to hire enough people to staff the Washington State Fair in Puyallup, which will run from Sept. 3-26. There’s a job fair this week on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Puyallup fairgrounds inside the Blue Gate.

The fair was canceled last year due to the pandemic, though the fairgrounds did hold drive-through events. Last year marked the first time the state fair had been canceled since World War II.
