Detectives say a man was shot and killed in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood overnight between Wednesday and Thursday.

At 1:06 a.m., emergency dispatchers received multiple calls about several gunshots being fired near Second Avenue and Vine Street.

Police arrived to find a man in the 2600 block of Second Avenue with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police and firefighters tried to save the victim, but the man, who is believed to be about 50 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This is the third reported shooting this evening just in the west precinct,” said SPD Det. Valerie Carson. “For those to all three happen in the west precinct, I mean, that is a lot. Three people that were subject to gun violence.”

Members of SPD’s CSI Unit processed the scene for evidence. Homicide detectives will lead the investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the violent crimes tip line at 206-233-5000.
