Several Seattle bridges ruled ‘structurally deficient’ says report

Ten bridges in Seattle have been identified as “structurally deficient” and many are in need of overdue maintenance, according to a new bridge report.
John Buswell with the Seattle Department of Transportation said there are 62 bridges in the city over 60 years old. To replace all those bridges would cost around $1.5 billion.
“We were prolific bridge builders in the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s,” Buswell told KING 5.
Bridges are inspected every two years, still the report showed major delays in maintenance over the last four years.
The bridges evaluated as structurally deficient are still safe, said Buswell.
The “Bridging the Gap” levy which has paid for many bridge repairs will run out of funding in 2016.
