Towing companies fight Seattle caps in court

The days of $800 towing bills in Seattle ended with a city council vote in November, but the towing companies are now suing over the caps the city put in place.
The Towing and Recovery Association of Washington has filed a lawsuit in King County to remove the towing fee caps the city approved.
The Seattle Times reports the association says the city doesn’t have the authority to put caps in place because there are already state laws that cover the towing industry.
It says the city can’t adopt rules that are inconsistent with state law.
Seattle capped towing fees at $183 for the first hour and $130 for every other hour. It also capped the storage rates.
The towing association says if the city wants to change the rates it needs to do so in the legislature.
