An early morning house fire in South Seattle led police to an extensive marijuana grow operation in South Seattle.

Multiple crews from the Seattle Fire Department responded to the blaze about 7:30 Wednesday morning in in the 5800 block of Seward Park Av S.

No one was home when firefighters arrived. After controlling the fire, they they discovered approximately 200 mature marijuana plants after spotting what looked like suspicious wiring, according to SFD spokesman Kyle Moore.

Investigators determined faulty wiring from the grow operation in the basement caused the fire. Luckily, no one was hurt.

“With these type of operations where they have weird electrical, where they jimmy rig the electrical, it poses a danger to firefighters,” Moore said.

Damage is estimated at $70,000. The Seattle Police Department is investigating.
