Two men are behind bars after Renton police said they opened fire toward an officer on Tuesday.

This happened near the intersection of Talbot Road and South Grady Way just before 5 p.m.

According to Detective Robert Onishi, an officer was stopped at the intersection when two men in a red Kia pulled up and opened fire.

“The first thing she did was duck for cover in her car,” Onishi said. “Then once the shooting stopped, she popped back up again, and people were pointing out a vehicle that was speeding off.”

After a short pursuit, police said both suspects were caught and cuffed.

Their names have not been released, but police said the shooter is a 24-year-old man from Kirkland and that the driver is a 23-year-old man from Seattle.

“Turned out to be a pretty fair amount of gunfire. We recovered, I think, 15 casings in the parking lot there,” Onishi said.

Investigators said the surveillance video at the scene shows their officer is the intended target, but police have yet to make that video public.

Police said both suspects were so brazen that they pulled the trigger within the site of the Renton Police Department, which is one block away from the scene.

Despite more than a dozen rounds being fired, police said no one was injured.
