Minimum wage in Seattle will increase on Jan. 1, 2022.

The Seattle Office of Labor Standards (OLS) announced on Monday the minimum wage will increase to $17.27/hour at companies with more than 500 employees. That’s up from $16.69/hour in 2021.

For smaller companies (500 or fewer employees) that don’t pay least $1.52/hour toward the employee’s medical benefits and/or where the employee doesn’t earn at least $1.52/hour in tips, the minimum wage will also be $17.27/hour. That’s up from $16.69/hour.

For those that do pay medical benefits or where tips exceed $1.52/hour, the new minimum wage will be $15.75/hour. That’s up from $15/hour.

Per the Minimum Wage Ordinance, the minimum wage increases every year on January 1 and applies to overtime-eligible employees who work in the city. The OLS announces the next year’s minimum wage increase by Sept. 30 of each year.

Minimum wage in Washington state is $13.69. Starting Jan. 1, 2022, that wage will increase to $14.49.
