The tolls are likely going up on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge again. The only question is how much.

Fewer people are using the bridge, and that means less money to pay off the bonds used to build the bridge.

The state just raised the tolls on the Narrows Bridge in July, the first toll increase in four years.

But The News Tribune reports the tolls will likely have to be raised again to keep pace with falling revenue and the increasing debt payments.

The state promised the tolls would never be higher than $6. But it already costs that much if you pay by mail.

The citizen’s committee begins its work on the tolling issue Tuesday night. There will be public meetings about potential toll increases in January and February.
