Seattle crews head to New York to help with Sandy recovery

Seattle City Light crews are heading to New York to help the storm battered region recover from Hurricane Sandy.
Eighteen City Light linemen and their trucks will hop aboard a C-17 Globemaster Saturday morning from Joint Base Lewis-McChord to help out the Long Island Power Authority, which is still trying to restore power to over half a million people, KING 5 reports.
The City Light crews aren’t the only ones from our area offering a helping hand. A number of utilities including the Snohomish PUD and a subsidiary of PSE, Quanta Services, have or will send crews to aid in the recovery.
The 62nd Airlift Wing out of JBLM is also picking up crews and trucks from all over the West Coast and shuttling them to the New York area. While the airmen are experienced moving all sorts of heavy equipment, one crewman says they’ve never ferried power trucks before.
