New automated cameras will be catching drivers who exceed the speed limit in school zones around Seattle.

The school zone cameras went live on Thursday at four Seattle school locations. The cameras were placed at Broadview-Thomson K-8 School, Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, Olympic View Elementary School and Gatewood Elementary School after it was found speeding was a problem in those zones.

Tickets will be issued during school hours when the yellow light beacons are flashing.

There will be a warning period through Nov. 26 where drivers in violation will just receive a warning. But beginning Nov. 26, $189 tickets will be issued to speeders.

The Seattle Police Department says the goal is not to just hand out tickets, but to increase safety and reduce collisions in school zones.
