Our first weekday, workday back from this weekend’s clock resets after shifting out of Daylight Saving Time has now come and gone. We all appear to have shown up on time.

My trick? On Saturday night, after going out with my wife, I came home and reset the microwave and the other clocks back one hour, because, ya’ know, “fall back; spring forward.”

At the time, I didn’t realize that I must be some kind of super-genius. Just last week, Washington Senator Patty Murray was before Congress to rid us of this twice-yearly clock flip – and pushing to make Daylight Saving Time year-round. Why? Did she say it was because there are more accidents on the road when we flip the clocks? Did she cite reports of more heart attacks during these seasonal time changes? Or maybe she wanted Congress to know that it was safe for kids going to school when skies were light?

Sen. Murray urges country to move to permanent Daylight Saving Time

Sure, but Sen. Murray also told lawmakers the following about why she endorses sticking to one time zone year-round:

“I don’t know a single person who loves to go through the trouble of figuring out whether their microwave or their oven has the hour right,” she said.

Hmmm. Not all listeners to The Dori Monson Show agreed with her on that point. This is what some of you had to say on the KIRO Radio 97.3 FM text line:

From the 206: “Because of inflation, I can’t even afford a microwave.”

From the 360: “I guess that is more important than Afghanistan, gas prices, Mexico border, inflation, etc.”

From the 360: “She should have talked about the car clock. Now THAT is a pain in the butt.”

Listen to the Dori Monson Show weekday afternoons from noon – 3 p.m. on KIRO Radio, 97.3 FM. Subscribe to the podcast here.
