PETA names the perfect BLT for Seattle animal lovers

Oct 23, 2012, 10:37 AM | Updated: 11:11 am

While some may consider ‘fake bacon’ an assault to meat-eating and mankind, others may embrace it has healthy and animal friendly.

If you’re one of the latter, PETA, famously known for defending animal rights, has named its top 10 vegan BLTs in the U.S. and a Seattle restaurant makes one of the winning sandwiches.

Highline Bar, at 210 Broadway Ave. E. in Seattle, makes the list at number five. Their BLT boasts “protein-packed tempeh (made from soy) bacon,” lettuce, tomato, and vegan mayo on two slices of grilled bread. Diners also get a side of potato salad, baked beans, or soup. The official “TLT” will run you $8, $10 with a side.

“Highline proves every day that a delicious BLT doesn’t have to cost a pig ‘an arm and a leg,'” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman.

PETA says the sandwich is so delicious that you will forget the bacon isn’t real after the first bite.

The first place BLT award went to DC Vegetarian in Portland, Ore.
