Another stretch of beaches on Hood Canal is closed to shellfish harvest because of a health threat.

Recent testing of mussels revealed the presence of a naturally occurring marine biotoxin called diarrhetic shellfish poisoning, or DSP, which can make you sick and can even be life threatening.

The Washington state Health Department has posted warning signs from Tekiu Point to the Navy submarine base at Bangor declaring the beaches closed to recreational shellfish harvest.

A separate closure remains in effect in areas stretching north and south from the Hood Canal Bridge due to PSP, or paralytic shellfish poisoning.
