Hearing set for accused Afghan mass-murderer from JBLM

The Joint Base Lewis McChord soldier accused of gunning down 16 Afghans earlier this year is expected to face survivors of his alleged attacks via satellite during a pre-trial hearing next month.
The Army has scheduled a two-week hearing to begin November 5.
Staff Sergeant Robert Bales is accused of opening fire on civilians during an overnight attack outside a remote base in Afghanistan. He’s also accused of burning bodies, taking steroids and drinking alcohol.
The Seattle Times reports the first week will be held at JBLM. The second week will be held in Afghanistan where villagers who witnessed the attack will testify.
Bales’ attorney John Henry Browne is expected to attend that hearing in Afghanistan to cross-examine those witnesses.
Bales, 39, was on his fourth tour in ten years when he allegedly went on this shooting spree.
