We need a visionary and there is no visionary in the Republican Party

Jun 23, 2016, 4:24 PM

There is some data out that is being portrayed as bad news for Trump. And in some ways it is.

But if you read into this polling data, what becomes evident is that the GOP doesn’t mean anything to Republicans. Republicans themselves have given the GOP the lowest favorability rating in modern history. The Democrat Party is seen favorably by 49 percent of the people, the Republican Party is seen as favorable by just 24 percent. Its popularity is rapidly declining.

The Republican Party is in an absolute crisis and it’s an identity crisis. There are some deep reasons for this. Mitch McConnell is deeply uncomfortable with the base; he finds you scary and backwards. The establishment is afraid of you. There are multiple bases in the GOP. And the social base is lost in the shuffle; you are now homeless.

We need a visionary and there is no visionary in the Republican Party. There was a generation not so long ago that saved the world from something not unlike ISIS. And a visionary statement gives people a chance to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Trump has created a legitimate movement. But Trump is only about himself.  He’s not a visionary. And 48 percent of Conservatives want a different choice.

To get people reignited for Conservatism and small government, we have to be bigger than self. And Trump would do well to reach out to the 48 percent who want another choice, to give them opportunities to serve at a level bigger than themselves rather than just saying “I’ll handle it.”
