City of Pacific officials warn of looming bankruptcy

All the drama surrounding Pacific Mayor Cy Sun could bankrupt the city and force it to un-incorporate.
Eight city employees fired by Mayor Sun and the former mayor of Pacific are suing the city. Most of the claims are for wrongful termination, but the former mayor is suing for defamation of character.
The lawsuits are asking for $11.2 million in damages. KOMO TV reports the city is only insured for $10 million against claims like this.
If it has to pay up, the city attorney says the claims will bankrupt the city.
The city council is making plans should that happen and if the city is forced to fold.

Separately, efforts to recall Sun continue. KOMO reports mayor has 15 days to appeal a judge’s decision to allow a recall measure in a special election. If he doesn’t, supporters will have four days to collect signatures and get the issue on a special ballot, most likely in December.
