Light snow has been falling in parts of Western Washington on Monday morning, although most of the significant sightings have been closer to Whatcom and Skagit counties.

“It’s a bit of a mixed bag out there this morning,” the National Weather Service said Monday.

Both Whatcom and Skagit counties could eventually see “light accumulations,” with areas around Lynden currently receiving the brunt of the morning snow so far on Monday.

“From Snohomish County south, a light dusting of snow is possible on various surfaces this morning but should not be impactful,” the NWS predicts.

As of early Monday morning, Bellingham International Airport has also reported “light snow for a number of hours,” while accumulating along I-5 between Bellingham and Blaine, according to KIRO 7 meteorologist Nick Allard.

King County could still see mixed rain and show with light accumulation, according to the National Weather Service.

By Monday afternoon, areas below 1,000 feet will see rain.

Whatcom County saw some light snow on Saturday morning. More snow is expected at the mountain passes overnight and into Monday afternoon.

The rest of the week will be more on the rainy side, with the Seattle debut of winter snow expected to be brief.

Forecasters say the region could also see breezy conditions Wednesday, but wind speeds aren’t necessarily notable. More cold air moves again on Thursday and Friday as the moisture trails off, once again increasing the chance of snow at lower elevations.
