Former Seattle mayoral candidate among new hires in Mayor Harrell’s cabinet

A former Seattle mayoral candidate and state representative, Jessyn Farrell, has a new job in Mayor Bruce Harrell’s administration.

Farrell will lead the city’s Office of Environment and Sustainability. Her job is to figure out how to spend millions of dollars in state and federal funds earmarked to address the climate crisis. Mayor Harrell says Farrell will also partner with under-represented communities that he says are too often left out.

“Jessyn Farrell understands Seattle must set the example for the nation as a bold, climate-forward City that leads by partnering with underrepresented communities too often left out,” Harrell said in a written release. “Jessyn will bring the ambitious policy ideas and experience, needed collaborative approach, and vision grounded in a true commitment to environmental justice necessary to make the most of this moment and ensure a healthy Seattle environment today and for future generations.”

The other new appointments Harrell announced this week were Markham McIntyre as the leader of the Office of Economic Development, and Greg Wong as the leader of the Department of Neighborhoods.

McIntyre was previously the executive vice president at the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and worked for then-Congressman Jay Inslee before that.

Wong, a community leader and attorney, will be tasked with “driving local engagement, coordinating neighborhood strategies citywide, and charting a future direction for a city full of unique, vibrant, and welcoming neighborhoods” in his new role.
