A “minor” geomagnetic storm over the northern United States had the aurora borealis visible in parts of Washington early Thursday morning.

Green streaks from the aurora were caught on camera just before 5 a.m. on Thursday by Skunk Bay Weather’s cameras, positioned near Hansville facing the Puget Sound toward Whidbey Island.

The aurora was said to have been visible across Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, and other parts of the northern United States.

The last time the aurora borealis appeared in Washington’s night skies was in October of 2021, thanks to a solar flare that emanated off the sun.
