Boeing surges ahead with 787 Dreamliner

Boeing is stepping up production on the Dreamliner to meet its goal of making ten of the planes a month by the end of next year.
Boeing has activated its surge line on the 787. The Herald reports the first fuselage pieces were put in the line last Friday.
The company has long planned to use this line to keep production on pace while the South Carolina plant got up to speed. It is designed to be temporary, but the former CEO of commercial airplanes Jim Albaugh had said it was possible the line would become permanent.
Boeing is currently producing 3.5 Dreamliners a month. It plans to be cranking out ten a month by the end of next year. This surge line will help keep the company on track.
The company has delivered 17 of the planes to customers so far. There are more than 800 on order.
