Labor Day travel to Seattle is no holiday for visitors. A new survey finds the city is the U.S.’s most expensive destination for the upcoming holiday weekend.
CheapHotels.org says the average price for a 3-star hotel room in Seattle is $312, if you can find one. The survey blames Bumbershoot, which brings about 100,000 visitors to the area.
The survey says hotel rates for the weekend jump about 65 percent higher than normal.
By comparison, the average price of a 3-star hotel room in Portland is $170, putting the Rose City at number nine on the list.
The survey ranks Virginia Beach, Atlantic City, Philadelphia and Boston just behind Seattle for most expensive Labor Day destinations.
Las Vegas, St. Louis and Orlando are the least expensive.
