John Lennon’s killer is up for parole again this week.

Though the specific date has not been made public, New York State’s Department of Corrections confirms that Mark David Chapman will have his seventh parole hearing in the next few days. A decision on whether to release him will likely be announced by the end of the week.

The 57-year-old Chapman has been denied parole repeatedly since he was convicted of shooting Lennon four times in the back outside the musician’s New York City apartment building on December 8, 1980.

Chapman’s fifth parole hearing was in 2005. Though he said he was sorry and ashamed of his crimes, his parole request was denied immediately.

Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, has been among the many who have argued against Chapman’s release.
