Twenty-one-year-old Jorden Ray Watkins is a convicted felon who is no stranger to police— wanted at the time of his recent arrest for escape from custody. Now, he’s being charged with first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

On March 28, outside the Ballard Food Bank, Watkins tried selling his victim a cell phone.

The victim was armed with a pry bar. The two got into an argument, at which point the victim walked away, according to a Seattle police report. Watkins then pulled a black semi-automatic handgun and fired two shots, the second of which struck the victim in the stomach.

The shooting happened in broad daylight with other patrons “milling around” the Ballard Food Bank. Watkin’s first shot missed the other pedestrians and lodged itself in a nearby business.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery.
