Man pleads guilty to 2011 hit and run death of cyclist in Seattle

Jul 17, 2012, 3:57 PM | Updated: 5:15 pm

Nearly a year after a cyclist was killed in a hit and run accident on Dexter Avenue in Seattle, the man behind the wheel has plead guilty to the crime.

Erlin Garcia Reyes, 28, of Normandy Park, plead guilty to charges stating he was the driver of an SUV that fatally struck and killed 44-year-old Michael Wang on July 28, 2011.

The SUV hit Wang as the car turned left on Dexter Ave. North in South Lake Union.

The suspect fled the scene, and after a long investigation, Seattle police arrested Reyes in early June 2012.

The victim, 44-year-old Michael Wang, was a photographer who worked for PATH, the Seattle-based world health organization. He commuted by bike to his home in Shoreline.

Reyes will be sentenced on August 10 at the King County Courthouse. The sentence range for felony hit and run is 31 to 41 months. Prosecutors intend to recommend the maximum sentence.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
