Police deploy pepper spray to break up Capitol Hill demonstration

Riot gear clad Seattle Police used tear gas to break up an
early morning demonstration Sunday on Capitol Hill during
a
big Pride weekend demonstration.

Six people were arrested as several dozen marched through
the streets, knocking over street signs and dragging trash
cans into the street. A police report says demonstrators
were heard threatening to break windows. When officers
tried, several members of the group refused orders to
clear
the street. One man reportedly jumped and stomped on a
parked car, with police deploying pepper spray when he
refused to stop. Another was arrested for kicking a
police
commander in the knee.

A detective says at least one of those arrested, a 22-
year-old woman, had been arrested earlier in the week for
trespassing and is well known in the anarchist community.

No damage was reported, and police say there were no other
incidents on a night that saw thousands take to Capitol
Hill
for Pride weekend revelry.

Police maintained a strong and visible presence on Capitol
Hill throughout the weekend. It was the second time in
the past week they moved quickly to break up a
demonstration, according to the Capitol Hill Seattle blog.
