The guy who was supposed to be taking care of Pearl Jam’s
money is now charged with bilking the band and costing it
over $500,000 during a four-year period.
Rickey Charles Goodrich faces 33 charges of first and
second-degree theft in King County Superior Court for
allegedly stealing $380,000 between 2006 and September
2010 while serving as chief financial officer at Pearl
Jam’s management company, Curtis Inc.
A Seattle Police investigator reports the band also claims
Goodrich’s thefts cost Pearl Jam $566,000, including
investigative
expenses. Charging documents reveal the 54-year-old
resident of Navato, Calif., is also alleged to have
admitted to owing the band hundreds of thousands of
dollars.
In addition to tapping band accounts to pay off debts,
Seattle Detective Stacy Litsjo reported to the court that
Goodrich also charged $134,000 in purchases to the company
credit card.
“These unauthorized charges included Amazon.com, various
hotels, restaurants, iTunes, and airplane tickets for
himself and family members, various retail stores and
vendors,” Litsjo reported.
The alleged crimes started coming to light when a review
of “cash flow issues” revealed he had been pocketing
thousands of dollars supposedly paid to band members and
crew for spending money on the road, including a $15,000
payment to guitarist Mike McCready.
Goodrich declined comment. The band issued the following
statement from Kelly Curtis, long time Pearl Jam manager
who employed Goodrich:
“We are deeply saddened by this situation. We referred
this matter to the
Prosecuting Attorney’s Office almost 18 months ago and are
looking forward to a resolution.”
Goodrich faces 25 counts of first-degree theft and eight
counts of second-degree theft. He is scheduled to enter a
plea June 28.
