Biden calls 9mm handguns ‘high-caliber weapons,’ 2nd Amendment Foundation responds

President Biden took aim at 9mm handguns, calling them “high-caliber weapons,” and believes they should be banned.

The president made the remarks outside the White House after returning from a visit to the site of a mass shooting in Texas where 21 people, including 19 elementary school children, were killed last week.

“They said a .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out — maybe able to get it and save the life,” Biden said during a press conference. “A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.”

Dave Workman, senior editor at the Second Amendment Foundation, pushed back on Biden’s comments about firearms in wake of a reignited, nationwide diatribe over gun control.

“Joe Biden may have a shotgun to gather dust in his closet someplace. But he doesn’t know anything about firearms,” Workman said on the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. “He certainly has no knowledge at all about ballistics and any of that stuff.”

The Second Amendment Foundation is dedicated to promoting a better understanding of the Constitutional heritage to privately own and possess firearms. The organization holds many educational and legal action programs designed to better inform the public about the gun control debate.

As for a more accurate description of a 9mm pistol, Workman labeled it as a “mid-caliber weapon.”

“Most law enforcement agencies use them today. The FBI uses them. Certainly, I’ve got sidearms that have a larger caliber that I’ve hunted with,” Workman said. “The 9mm for a long time was considered really nominal for defensive purposes. It is the most popular caliber for the most popular side, or in America today, used by millions and millions of people for personal protection and home defense.”

Workman stated “mid caliber weapons,” including semi-automatic rifles, are used for target shooting, predator control, and taking out varmints and pests, and are still necessary for homeowners to own.

“There’s really nothing wrong with these good effects,” Workman said.

“Joe perpetuates this thing,” Workman continued. “And what worries me is the guy probably believes it, which means he flunked history.”
