Kent City Council votes to ban medical marijuana gardens

Jun 6, 2012, 6:32 AM | Updated: 9:26 am

The Kent City Council voted Tuesday night to ban medical marijuana businesses and collective gardens.

The Cannabis Action Coalition served papers on the city council as the 4-3 vote banning collective gardens came down.

“You are violating state law. I said if you did that I promised to sue you, and tonight I’m going to do exactly that,” said Steve Sarich with the Cannabis Action Coalition.

Many of the 150 people at the meeting pleaded with the council to allow the drug.

The council said the state law is too vague, and if Kent was to allow the gardens the city would be in violation of federal law.
