Even though Seattle was knocked off its pedestal, so to speak, we are still one of the top ten bike-friendly cities in the nation according to WalletHub and Anytime Estimate. Our regional rival (coined by Axios), Portland ranks No. 2 and No. 1 accordingly.

So what makes Seattle such a bikeable city? According to Axios, Wallethub looks at these specific parameters which include, “geographic traversability, number of cycling commuters, and access to trails and bicycle shops.”

Seattle scored a 71 out of 100 total points, which places us at No. 8 overall.

Katerina Winge manages Wheel Fun Rentals on Alki Beach and tells KIRO NewsRadio, she’s not surprised we are in the top 10.

“It’s actually pretty cool. Where I work, Alki, is definitely like a big biking-heavy city, and it doesn’t surprise me one bit,” Winge said.

She goes on to tell us that biking has become a part of our culture and it’s really cool that we kept getting ranked in the top ten.

Another state worth mentioning is California because it had the most cities on the bike-friendly list with San Francisco coming in at No. 6.

Bureau bike sales skyrocketed during the pandemic, according to the U.S. Census, and more people rode bikes to work and elsewhere to socially distance themselves from other people.
