Darren Dedo, KIRO Newsradio crime reporter covers overnight crime in the Puget Sound region on the morning of July 1: A hit and run with a police vehicle shuts down a Tacoma intersection, a man is arrested for retail theft in Bellevue, and an update on a shooting in Tacoma last Sunday.

Tacoma Hit and Run

Tacoma Police announced they would be shutting down the intersection of East 56th St and Portland Avenue after a driver ran a red light around 1 a.m. last night.

The driver then ran head-on into a police cruiser.

The vehicle’s driver was taken into custody after fleeing the scene on foot. Both the officer and the suspect were transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

The driver has since been charged with a hit and run and the unlawful possession of a firearm.

Bomb Threat at Tacoma Community College

A bomb threat was made at the Tacoma Community College Arts building at 2:10 p.m. Thursday according to Tacoma Police Department Twitter.

The building was evacuated and Tacoma Explosive Ordinance Disposal and Pierce County K-9 cleared the building.

No bombs were found and the building has since been reopened.

Bellevue Retail Theft

A man in Bellevue, identified as Brandon Bussey, has been arrested and charged with organized retail theft and trafficking stolen property on Thursday, June 30.

The man is accused of stealing from four stores 11 different times between April 27 and June 24.

He had an estimated $4,000 worth of stolen items in his car.

Investigators from the Attorney General’s new Washington Organized Retail Crime Theft Task Force arranged a meeting with Bussey on OfferUp, to purchase a cat sky tower, which he had stolen from the Bellevue Fred Meyers. Police then confronted him in their arranged meeting, which Bussey organized in the parking lot of the Fred Meyers location he had stolen the tower from only hours earlier.

Update: Assault and shooting in Tacoma home

On Sunday, June 26, Tacoma Police responded to a shooting at the 900 block of East 52nd Street where they found two men injured, and one man dead in the backyard.

Charging documents from the incident show that the shooting likely happened due to a decade and a half-long feud stemming from the death of a 29-year-old mother in 2009.

Two brothers, Kacy and Jacy Estes, showed up at the home of a man identified only by his initials A.L., accusing him of being a “snitch” for the police to get a lighter sentence in the 2009 case. Both men appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the confrontation.

Video surveillance shows the argument escalating when A.L.’s wife maced Jacy before he shot A.L. four times in the back when he tried to run away. Several more shots can be heard including one that struck Jacy in the upper back and one that hit Kacy in the calf. It is unclear at this time who shot the Estes brothers.

Kacy can then be seen firing three more shots into A.L.’s head while he lay facedown in the yard.

Both men have been arrested, Kacy Estes entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment on Wednesday, and Jacy is still in the hospital recovering from his gunshot wound.
